Korea: New Korea Correspondant - Ryan Long

Do the Korean's say Yumi instead of Yummy?

“I am eating sweet deok [duck] (”rice cake”) with sweetened chestnut paste and peanut chunks.”
-Ryan

Ryan and I have been friends since I was in 7th grade. Ryan is quite a talented performer and in our years in school together we were in 4 musicals and we sang in choirs where we wore sequins and sang for old people. Many of these memories have been suppressed and are only accessible through hypnosis, but I’m told I appeared to be ‘having fun’ the whole time.

After all that was over, Ryan found himself quite taken with the field of anthropology and yada yada yada he lives in Korea with his Korean wife Soon-ae where he’s doing research on a Fullbright grant.

From the stories my parents and brother Kai have told me about eating in Korea, I imagine it to be like like eating food out of a Dr. Seuss cookbook. So I asked Ryan if he would be interested in writing some travelogues for us.

Be on the lookout for his reports from Korea about encounters with a new and exciting cuisine. I look forward to some interesting and delicious stories.
